Box Hill’s highly anticipated Catholic college has ticked off another milestone with the appointment of a new captain to the helm.
Santa Sophia Catholic College’s new principal Mark De Vries already has 30 years experience in the education industry.
“Education has changed so much, particularly the way children learn. I have an imperative as a leader to give the children the skills that they will use in their future workplaces. We will make a conscious effort to prepare the children for the future,” he said.
Santa Sophia Catholic College Box Hill will accommodate 2000 learners when the Terry Road campus is officially completed.
It will offer early learning, kindergarten to year 12, out of school hours care, a learning needs hub and post school pathways with tertiary and business partners.

Year 12 student, Renee Pisani, was awarded The Bishop of Parramatta Award for Student Excellence. This is an annual award given to one Year 12 student from each Catholic secondary school in the Diocese of Parramatta, recognising their commitment to Catholic faith, academic achievement and community involvement. Exploring Trades: Year 10 Trade Pathways Morning 🛠️ On Friday 29 August, Year 10 students with an interest in trades joined our Trade Pathways Options Morning to explore hands-on career opportunities after school. 👷♀️ Mariana from Master Builders Association introduced students to a wide range of construction trades and the apprentice-to-qualified-tradie journey. Apprentices Tom and Tarsha shared their real-world experiences, and students put their tool knowledge to the test in a fun guessing competition! 🌿 John and Haydn from Greenworx Pty Ltd took students into the world of landscaping, highlighting key skills like fitness, teamwork, and problem-solving. Careers Breakfast Inspires Future Pathways 🌟 The Senior Common Room was buzzing on Wednesday 27 August as 27 students joined our Careers Breakfast! 🐾 Dr Robert Zammit, renowned veterinarian, shared incredible stories from his career — from caring for lion cubs to writing for magazines and working in media. He reminded students that your HSC doesn’t define you, and life offers many pathways beyond school. 💡 Mrs Cynthia Stanton, COO of Primary and Community Care Services, spoke about the impact of social prescribing and how health outcomes are shaped by more than medicine.
