Our teaching staff collaborated to organise an opportunity for a student to connect with an industry professional in a career path they are interested in - professional netball.
Maddy Turner, NSW Swifts defender and Australian Diamonds spoke with our student, Clarissa, about her ambitions to pursue professional sport as a career path.
Ms. Turner spoke about her career path in professional netball, how she also studied speech pathology post-school, her training and nutrition regime and gave our student a clear indication of what working in professional sport entails. She suggested that Clarissa begin creating training videos of herself, create a netball resume of accomplishments, and apply to netball academies.
She also mentioned the many roles that support players and the game as a whole, such as training staff, event management, marketing and communications, regulatory compliance, and equipment specialists that all have an impact on the game.

STEM MAD Day โ Santa Sophia Students Shine! This week, our creative problem-solvers from Years 4โ7 represented Santa Sophia Catholic College brilliantly at STEM MAD Day (Make a Difference). They wowed audiences with innovative projects. Our students didnโt just presentโthey explored! Today, our Year 6 girls, Audrey V. and Evie R. proudly represented Santa Sophia at the Cluster Finals โ and both came home with awards! ๐ Evie R. received the Social Justice Award for her powerful speech raising awareness of an important and relevant social issue. Audrey V. was named Cluster Finalist and will progress to the Voice of Youth Division Finals at the end of the term, competing against finalists from across half of the Parramatta Diocese. Feast Day of St Mary MacKillop ๐ Last Friday, our School of Curiosity gathered in faith to honour Saint Mary of the Cross MacKillop, Australiaโs first saint. Mary was a shining example of compassion, courage, and service. Through prayer led by Father Carlos, and song beautifully shared by Year 2 and the choir under the direction of Mrs Makdessi and Mr Rooke, we reflected on and celebrated her life. Mary MacKillop placed her trust in Godโs providence and lived by her call to โnever see a need without doing something about it.โ ๐

Each year, Year 6 students from across the Parramatta Diocese participate in a Public Speaking Competition. Our students are tasked with writing and presenting a speech with an engaging topic and strong message, affording them the opportunity to build confidence, think critically, and develop strong communication skills โ and our Year 6 students have certainly risen to the challenge! Last Tuesday, 8 talented students from across our Year 6 classes competed in the grade final. A huge congratulations to Audrey V. and Evie R., who are heading to the next stage of the competition!
