Year 7 2021 Orientation

25 Nov 2020

On Friday 20 November, we welcomed Year 6 students who will be coming to Santa Sophia in 2021 for Year 7!

While the move to high school can be nerve-racking, we planned a full day of activities for the Year 6's from several different schools to have a chance to meet new friends, get to know what high school is like, and calm those nerves.

The day consisted of plenty of icebreaker games, team challenges, sports and student led tours of the school. Thank you to our Year 8 and 9 leaders who played a big part in making the day run smoothly.

Welcome to Santa Sophia, Class of 2026!

🚗💜 Kiss, Drop & Go – Like a Pro! 💜🚗 To support our continued focus on safety, our School of Curiosity student leaders have created a short video to show how we can all do our part to keep drop-off and pick-up smooth and safe. 🎬 In just a few minutes, you’ll learn: ✅ Why students should enter/exit independently from the passenger side ✅ Why bags belong in the seat, not in the boot ✅ Why parents must stay in the car — be brave and wave! ✅ How everyone can contribute to a smoother Kiss & Drop zone 👧👦✨ Let’s work together to ensure our students arrive and leave school safely, every single day.

The recent visit was a huge success! Over the past two weeks, the college proudly welcomed 20 students from Kiamei High School in Osaka, Japan. Santa Sophia was honoured to be one of 10 schools across the region to host this large international group of 136 students. There was strong student involvement from our 2025 Cultural Tour exchange group, who warmly welcomed the visitors into their lessons, as well as during morning tea and lunchtime friendship groups. These students are now looking forward to reciprocating the visit later this year during the holiday break. A heartfelt thank you to all the host families who generously supported the program — your involvement was invaluable. We now look forward with excitement to our upcoming visit to Japan. #Internationalschool #japanesehighschool

Recently, our Year 12 Engineering Studies students were given the challenge to build a bridge out of balsa wood that can carry a load of 5kg. Students were given limited resources and could only use pins and PVA glue to hold the bridge together. They applied their understanding of truss analysis to design and construct their bridge. The winning bridge was able to hold over 26kg. All bridges were able to hold the 5Kg, some just.
