BEAT: Breathe Easy All Together 🫁 This peer leadership program empowers students with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to make informed decisions about e-cigarette use and advocate for respiratory health. At the end of last term, 27 of our dedicated Year 10 students completed an hour of online training and generously gave up their pupil-free day to take part in a full day of face-to-face training. They’ll now use their skills and resources to lead two sessions with our Year 7 cohort during wellbeing time in Week 2 and Week 4. A big thank you to the four incredible presenters from the Prevention Education and Research Unit at Western Sydney Local Health District, including Director Professor Smita Shah (OAM), for guiding and inspiring our students. #StudentLeadership #HealthEducation

This week, we had the privilege of welcoming educators from Timor Leste to Santa Sophia! 🇹🇱🤝🇦🇺 Br Paul Kane and five dedicated teachers from a new Marist school in Timor Leste visited our Year 1 and 3 classrooms to observe teaching and learning in action. Their school, which opened this year, is still under construction and currently operates out of parish meeting rooms. Trained at the Marist Teachers College, these passionate educators are implementing open classroom pedagogies and were eager to exchange ideas, particularly around positive behaviour management strategies. It was a joy to share our practices and connect over a shared mission to inspire and educate young minds. 🇹🇱✨ Timor-Leste Immersion 2025 — Introduction ✨🇹🇱 Over the recent school holidays, students and staff from Santa Sophia, Marian College and St Andrews embarked on an extraordinary immersion journey to Timor-Leste, visiting Dili, Baguia, and Atauro Island. Through teaching English, engaging with local communities, sharing stories, and learning from the lived experiences of the Timorese people, our students were invited into a journey of encounter — one marked by hospitality, faith, joy, and deep resilience. In a country shaped by a tragic history of occupation and struggle, we witnessed incredible strength and hope in every classroom, village, and conversation. Grounded in the values of compassion, justice, and human dignity, this experience challenged and transformed us. It reminded us that building a more just world begins with relationships — by listening, learning, and walking together in solidarity. 📸 Over the coming days, we’ll be sharing highlights, reflections, and reels from our time in Timor-Leste. "Put your stinkin’ rubbish in the bin!" 🎶 Today we launched a student-led campaign to help keep our beautiful school clean! As part of the initiative, our 2025 Student Leadership Team created a fun and catchy theme song and video — which will be played as the bell sound at the end of Recess and Lunch. The song serves as a daily reminder for all students to tidy their area before heading back to class.
