Santa Sophia Catholic College prepares learners for life through wisdom, faith, hope and love.

Santa Sophia Catholic College is currently operating from temporary locations for primary students in Kellyville and secondary students in Schofields. New premises will be open to students at the Box Hill site during Semester 2, 2021.

We are a community where everyone is a learner and everyone takes responsibility for his/her own learning.

Within a Catholic faith environment, students learn how to be responsible global citizens, how to think creatively and critically, how to communicate and to work collaboratively. All of this will be underpinned by leading educational research and practice using today’s technologies.

Santa Sophias Catholic College RE

Connecting with the Catholic faith and traditions

Religious education is more than formal instruction; it is a conscious pathway to the development of the whole person as a model of Christ and permeates all facets of life in a Catholic community. Its foundations are laid in the home and built in partnership within the parish community. The Catholic school is an entrusted participant in this collaboration.

Everything you need to know

Catholic Learning Community Box Hill will accommodate around 2,000 learners in purpose-built, contemporary learning spaces and will include early learning, K-12, out of school hours care and vacation care, a learning needs hub and post school pathways with tertiary and business partners.

This is a community of learning for all - teachers, students, families and the wider community.

Santa Sophia Catholic College Box Hill is located within the grounds of Schofields campus of St John Paul II Catholic College (StJPII) at 85 Hambledon Road Schofields with the initial focus on secondary education (Years 7, 8 and 9 in 2020 ) and on the grounds of Our Lady of the Angels Primary Rouse Hill with the initial primary school intake (Kindergarten and Year 2 in 2020).

Once completed, the school will move to its permanent home in 2021 in The Gables on Fontana Pde near the corner of Red Gables Rd, where it will offer a ‘pre-to-post’ school (i.e. pre-school to beyond Year 12). You can find out more about this new site here: https://www.santasophiaboxhill.catholic.edu.au/Learning/Designed-For-Learning

It is very clear that with the significant housing and development and infrastructure building in the area, there is a need for an additional school. The most pressing need at this time is for a secondary facility.

After some other sites were considered, a decision was made to locate the temporary site on the grounds of Schofields campus of St John Paul II Catholic College (StJPII). This was done to ensure that there is a viable Catholic secondary education pathway for all students in the area.

There are a number of reasons for temporarily accommodating the inaugural Santa Sophia Kindergarten class at OLA:

  • Firstly, OLA is an established, fully functioning Primary school community with excellent infrastructure and facilities. The Santa Sophia foundation Kindergarten class will be able to tap into these existing facilities (including play spaces, the library and the Church) to ensure a wonderful start to learning for the students.
  • Secondly, locating a Kindergarten class on an existing Primary site, rather than a secondary site, is something that will be appealing to many parents.
  • Thirdly, we understand how important before and after school care is for working families. Parents of Santa Sophia Kindergarten students will have access to the before and after school care facility that is located on site. The centre will have the capacity to accommodate the Santa Sophia Kindergarten students.
  • Fourthly, OLA has well established transport and drop-off/pick-up processes. It is expected that times for the start and finish of the school day for Santa Sophia Kindergarten will mirror that of OLA.

  • Finally, these arrangements make it easier for the children beginning at Santa Sophia to take part in the parish sacramental program.

It will be school as usual for current and future StJPII and OLA students.

While Santa Sophia Catholic College Box Hill will be temporarily located on the same grounds as the schools it will be separate from and operate separately to the primary and secondary schools. Santa Sophia will have its own learning spaces but there may be some sharing of resources with OLA and StJPII. It is envisaged Santa Sophia will have a small footprint on the OLA and StJPII school sites.

Every effort will be made to keep disruptions to a minimum. Having the temporary sites at OLA and StJPII will mean a smoother transition for students from primary to secondary school and help to ensure continuity of learning and the best possible support for student wellbeing.

While there will be some additional local traffic, given the small number of students enrolling at Santa Sophia, it is not expected to have a significant impact on local traffic congestion.

Santa Sophia Catholic College Box Hill is now accepting enrolments for Kindergarten, Year 1, Year 7, 8 and 9 to commence in 2020.

See How to Enrol.

We are enrolling for K-2 and Years 7-10 for 2021. The procedure and enrolment forms can be found on our How to Enrol page.

As a Catholic school we have a strong religious dimension. Students of non-Catholic background are welcome to apply for enrolment and, if accepted, must be willing to support and fully participate in the religious activities of the College.

Where places are limited, priority will be given in order to:

  • Catholic students who live in the local parish and
  • Catholic students from other parishes

Enrolments of non-Australian citizens may only be considered after implementation of the existing general enrolment policy for the Diocese and at no time will they be enrolled in preference to an eligible local student. Systemic schools in the Diocese of Parramatta are able to offer enrolment to non-Australian citizens providing that they have a valid visa (the exception being subclass 571) and:

  • capacity exists within the school in the relevant year group
  • preference in enrolment is given to overseas students from practising Catholic families over those from other families
  • non-Catholic students enrolled and their guardians make a commitment to accept the ethos of the Catholic school and to participation by the student in all aspects of the Religious education of the school.

School fees in the Diocese of Parramatta are broken into three areas:

  1. Annual Diocesan Tuition Fees set by the Catholic Education Diocese of Parramatta
  2. Annual Diocese of Parramatta Diocesan Building Levy set by the Catholic Education Diocese of Parramatta
  3. Service fees set by each school
