Recently, our Year 12 Engineering Studies students were given the challenge to build a bridge out of balsa wood that can carry a load of 5kg. Students were given limited resources and could only use pins and PVA glue to hold the bridge together. They applied their understanding of truss analysis to design and construct their bridge. The winning bridge was able to hold over 26kg. All bridges were able to hold the 5Kg, some just.

Today, our Year 6 girls, Audrey V. and Evie R. proudly represented Santa Sophia at the Cluster Finals β€” and both came home with awards! πŸŽ‰ Evie R. received the Social Justice Award for her powerful speech raising awareness of an important and relevant social issue. Feast Day of St Mary MacKillop πŸ™ Last Friday, our School of Curiosity gathered in faith to honour Saint Mary of the Cross MacKillop, Australia’s first saint. Mary was a shining example of compassion, courage, and service. Through prayer led by Father Carlos, and song beautifully shared by Year 2 and the choir under the direction of Mrs Makdessi and Mr Rooke, we reflected on and celebrated her life. Mary MacKillop placed her trust in God’s providence and lived by her call to β€œnever see a need without doing something about it.” πŸ’™

Each year, Year 6 students from across the Parramatta Diocese participate in a Public Speaking Competition. Our students are tasked with writing and presenting a speech with an engaging topic and strong message, affording them the opportunity to build confidence, think critically, and develop strong communication skills β€” and our Year 6 students have certainly risen to the challenge! Last Tuesday, 8 talented students from across our Year 6 classes competed in the grade final. A huge congratulations to Audrey V. and Evie R., who are heading to the next stage of the competition!
