Dr Justin Coulson Parent Event

21 Jun 2019

Dr Justin Coulson Event 01

On the 19th June, 300 parents across 4 schools came together to be a part of our first major Parent Education Network event with Dr Justin Coulson!

Dr Justin was engaging, informative and inspiring as he shared with the parents on ways to build resilience in their child. He spoke about some important ways that parents can help build their child's resilience:

  • helping children understand their identity
  • Strengths based parenting: focusing on their child's strengths rather than their weaknesses
  • helping their child understand their is no such thing as "smart" just people who work hard and people who don't
  • being a "hope-giver" as a parent and providing hope to our children
  • giving our children our time
  • less screen time and more 'green' time. Increased use of social media may have impact our children's mental health and this is particularly the case for girls
  • being supportive without being helicopter parents.

Some of the parent feedback from the night included:

Valuable experience. I already implemented some of Justins Strategies on the morning routine to get to school and noticed a positive difference in attitude and motivation at drop off.

Such an informative and engaging night!

Such a great night and so worthwhile! Thank you for organising this event!

We look forward to future events such as this with quality speakers to help support our parents in their invaluable role.

Thank you to Saint John XXIII for hosting the night at their school and for their participation along with Our Lady of the Angel's Primary and St John Paul II College.

Connect with Dr Justin's resources and blog.

Today our whole college community came together to mark Ash Wednesday. Our School of Curiosity, led beautifully by Year 3, opened the day in prayer and song, followed by gatherings with the School of Connect and School of Challenge. It was a reverent and reflective occasion, inviting us to turn inward and consider how we can return to God through prayer, fasting, and almsgiving during this Lenten season. As we received the ashes, we were reminded of the call to “Repent and believe in the Gospel” — a powerful invitation to renewal, faith, and love. #AshWednesday #Lent Catholic Schools Parramatta Diocese

Today we celebrated Shrove Tuesday as a Santa Sophia community 🥞✨ Shrove Tuesday is a special day in the Liturgical calendar, marking the day before Lent begins — a time of reflection, prayer and preparation for Easter. There were lots of smiling faces (and long lines!) as students lined up for pancakes. A wonderful way to come together before the season of Lent begins. 💜 Thank you to our Social Justice team and student helpers for doing fantastic job serving their peers. #Lent #ShroveTuesday Catholic Schools Parramatta Diocese

Last Wednesday we held our Secondary Swimming Carnival 🏊‍♂️☀️ What a fun (and very hot!) fantastic day! From competitive races to Lizard Lane, volleyball and slides in the indoor pool — there was something for everyone. It was fantastic to see everyone cheering for their House, showing incredible spirit, and giving every race a go. We loved seeing students step up, compete and support one another throughout the day. Check out some highlights from a great day of fun and House pride! 📸 #SecondarySwimmingCarnnival #SwimmingCarnival #SchoolSpirit Catholic Schools Parramatta Diocese
