In a world with increasing pressures on teenagers to grow up too quickly, to admire others who aren't the best role models, and to constantly compare themselves to others, it is of vital importance that young people be reminded of who they are and who they could be.
Starting on February 25, 2020, all Stage 4 and 5 students commenced a program designed by specialist teams focused on addressing these issues facing the young men and women of today.
The College warmly and enthusiastically welcomed Simon from Valour and Judi from Allure, to lead the program for our students. The aim of the program is to break down any misconceptions of what it means to be a man and woman created by pop culture and the media, and to help reveal the truth of our purpose and design as young men and women.
The boys attended a session with Simon focusing on being a man of valour - someone who is selfless and not selfish. A person characterised by their bravery, inner strength and resilience rather than what brands they own and how lazy they could be. Students were then asked to present back to their group about a male role model that can inspire others to be a true man of valour.
The girls attended a session with Judi focusing on recognising true beauty and loving yourself for all you are (all.u.re). The students looked at reasons why females felt the need to change who they are, and reflected on the importance of self worth . Likewise, the students were also asked to present back to their group about a female role model that can inspire other young women to radiate true beauty.
The Valour and Allure programs will continue to run throughout the year on a fortnightly basis, where all Stage 4 and 5 students will delve deeper into what it means to be a young man and woman in today's world. All students showed great interest in the topic, leading to some meaningful conversations about the reality of today's world and sharing about people and their qualities that help inspire us to be the best versions of ourselves
