Visual Arts highlights for Term 4

16 Dec 2019

VA Aus image

We have had a wonderful Term in Visual Arts. Mrs Boddy shares below some of what the students have achieved this term.

Visual Arts, Term 4 - Australian Perspectives

Year 8 showcased their growth over this year in their final project for Term 4. They developed their knowledge, understanding and skills in visual arts to create artworks and interpret art. In Term 4, Year 8 explored appropriation, still life and Australian identity through designed objects, photography and painting. Their final work was a contemporary still life which reflected Australian culture. I have been very impressed with how far all Year 8 students have grown in their artistic ability. I hope those students who are taking other electives next year, can transfer all they have learnt to enhance their projects. Overall, it has been a successful year in Visual Arts and we wish all our students and their families a joyful Christmas!

Photography Personal Interest Project, Term 2 - 4

The Year 7 students who chose to undergo the Photography Personal Interest Project, have created a Year 7 Photography Photo Book to document their exploration of photography. They have archived their images based on various themes. Each student explored various photographic techniques, materials and processes.

They engaged with deep discussions about photography as contemporary art and what constitutes a successful photograph. Within their exploration, they were introduced to artists who use photography as an art form. The students transferred their knowledge and skills of photography into a photo book.

This photo book is a product of young artists working in collaboration to archive and document their exploration of photography. Well done to the 38 students who contributed to the photo book this year! Here is a snapshot of what is included:

Yesterday morning, our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students came together in our Yarning Circle for a meaningful yarn led by Aunty Julie and Alicia from Jarara (CSPD’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander education unit). ⁣ Discussions centred around the meaning of Reconciliation, the importance of totems, responding to questions or negative comments about cultural identity, and how we can educate others in a positive, respectful way. ⁣ We look forward to continuing these important conversations in Week 2 of Term 3. 🌿✨

🌸 Mother’s Day Celebrations at Santa Sophia - Day 1 🌸 This morning we kicked off our Mother's Day celebrations with a heartfelt breakfast and liturgy to honour the incredible mums, grandmothers, and mother-like figures in our Santa Sophia community. 💐 The day started bright and early with a buzz of excitement (and a few sleepy faces!), but the warmth, love, and gratitude made it all worthwhile. 💛 A huge thank you to everyone who helped bring this special event to life — it was a beautiful way to celebrate the amazing women who guide and support us every day. More to come for our Mother's Day Breakfast tomorrow morning! 📸 Photos captured by our talented student photographers: Tom, Chloe, Chelsea, Chloe, Sweera, and Abi (Year 9 Photography students), and Isaac and Sharaf (Year 8) Thank you to our sponsors, Elders Real Estate - Box Hill @jennieann even

School resumes for all students (K–12) this Wednesday, 30 April‼️ At Santa Sophia, being ready and on time is key to a successful day. 🔔 Homeroom for Years 5–12 begins at 8:15am — students should be on their level by 8:10am (Years 5–12), fully prepared and ready to engage. Please plan for traffic and aim to arrive early! A calm, punctual start allows students to organise themselves, connect with friends, and begin with a positive mindset. ✅ Set morning routines ✅ Leave 10–15 minutes earlier ✅ Use Kiss & Drop zones efficiently Missing school = missing out. We can't wait to see you all on Wednesday! #SantaSophiaCatholicCollege #FirstDayReady #BackToSchool
