Getting real with industry professionals: graphic design

22 Oct 2020

1on1 with Industry Professional

Identifying that one of our students, Koby, had an interest in graphic design, our teachers arranged a one-on-one meeting with industry professional, Glenn Whitehead.

Glen Whitehead is Creative Director at George P. Johnson Experience Marketing, whose clients include Mazda, IBM, Gatorade, Jeep and other prestigious brands. Koby was able to ask questions and receive feedback on his digital portfolio.

Our College is a Pre-to-Post School, which aims to prepare students for the workplace of the future with a student-centred approach. We build strong partnerships with industry professionals to give greater opportunities for our students to discover their vocation and succeed.

This is just one example of how Santa Sophia is customising personal pathways for students. Throughout the term, Mrs Stephanie Campanale, Partnerships and Pathways Coach, will be planning more "one to one" opportunities for students to 'get real' with industry professionals.

They were fantastic representatives for the school and finished the day having played extremely well. A big "Thank you!" to the parents and friends who turned out to lend their support on the day and cheer our girls on! 🙌

Thanks to the incredible support from our students and families, we raised valuable funds to help make this life-changing experience possible. Only 4 weeks to go until they depart! 🇹🇱 #ImmersionTrip #TimorLeste2025 #WorldDoughnutDay Krispy Kreme Doughnuts Catholic Schools Parramatta Diocese

🤝 Santa Sophia’s First Sister School Partnership 🇦🇺🇯🇵 We’re proud to announce our first official sister school partnership with Koka High School in Japan. Koka’s Principal, Mr Tagawa, visited on the historical date of June 10th, a meaningful moment that coincided with our Year 8 Japanese Festival Day—a beautiful celebration of culture and connection. This partnership promotes cultural exchange, academic collaboration, and lifelong friendships, building a bridge of global learning for generations to come. Welcome, Koka High School to the Santa Sophia Family !

🎌 Japanese Festival Day Highlights 🇯🇵 Yesterday students immersed themselves in the rich traditions of Japanese culture during our incredible Japanese Festival Day! From powerful Taiko drumming to graceful Shodō (calligraphy), our learners had hands-on experiences that brought Japan to life. 🥋 They tried their hand at Karate, ⚔️ Transformed into Samurai, 🖌️ Practiced the art of Calligraphy, 🥁 And felt the rhythm of Taiko – traditional Japanese drumming. #japaneseculture #JapaneseFestival #TaikoDrumming #samurai #karate #calligraphy

Last week we gathered to celebrate a Mass of Remembrance for two much loved children of our college community: Zane Belista and Demi Tsanadis. We also blessed the newly established Holy Family Memorial Garden, a prayerful space that will be an expression of remembrance and peace within our College grounds. We were honoured to be joined by members of the Belista and Tsanadis families and their friends, staff past and present as well as Mr Jack de Groot, Chief Executive Officer of Catholic Schools Parramatta Diocese and Fr Zakaria Gayed who presided over our liturgy.

A huge shout out to our Boys soccer team who played in the 7-10 Gala Day team on Wednesday. The boys played some fantastic football on the day coming through the pool stage with 4 wins from 4 games. ⚽ In the semi-final, a strong second-half performance saw them defeat St John XXIII 3–1. The final against Patrician Brothers was a great game with plenty of chances for both teams. As the final whistle went, the teams couldn't be separated finishing 2-2. In the end the lottery of penalties decided the game, and unfortunately for our boys luck wasn't on our side today. Great job boys, we are so very proud of your efforts! 👏 #santasophiasports #boyssoccer Catholic Schools Parramatta Diocese

Spreading Joy Through Music 🎶💛 Lorren (Year 9) and Emma (Year 4) have continued to live out the values of Santa Sophia through their recent acts of service. In April and May, they performed at two residential aged care homes and a special Senior Concert celebrating Mother’s Day and Parent’s Day. After each performance, they spent time connecting with residents — listening to stories, sharing conversation and checking in on their wellbeing. Their dedication, empathy, and leadership shine through every note. We’re so proud of their growing commitment to serve others through music! 🌟 Check out their beautiful performances here: ✨ https://youtu.be/ctdMxLgDWMo?feature=shared&t=411 ✨ https://youtu.be/XKjzqh10n2M?feature=shared&t=339 ✨ https://youtu.be/f8Qvh6uGVIw?feature=shared&t=3
