Getting real with industry professionals: Netball

07 Dec 2020

netballTB

Our teaching staff collaborated to organise an opportunity for a student to connect with an industry professional in a career path they are interested in - professional netball.

Maddy Turner, NSW Swifts defender and Australian Diamonds spoke with our student, Clarissa, about her ambitions to pursue professional sport as a career path.

Ms. Turner spoke about her career path in professional netball, how she also studied speech pathology post-school, her training and nutrition regime and gave our student a clear indication of what working in professional sport entails. She suggested that Clarissa begin creating training videos of herself, create a netball resume of accomplishments, and apply to netball academies.

She also mentioned the many roles that support players and the game as a whole, such as training staff, event management, marketing and communications, regulatory compliance, and equipment specialists that all have an impact on the game.

NAPLAN: What Parents Really Need to Know

Each March, families across Australia hear a lot about NAPLAN. The National Assessment Program Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) assesses students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 in reading, writing, spelling, grammar and numeracy. But what does it really mean for your child in 2026?

This week it was Year 3 Navy and Gold’s turn to celebrate Family Mass with Father Carlos. Family Mass is a wonderful opportunity to strengthen our community and celebrate the beautiful partnership between home and school, recognising parents as the first educators of their children in faith. By participating side-by-side, our families showed what faith in action truly looks like. Students and their parents played an active role in the liturgy, from the prayerful delivery of the First Reading and Responsorial Psalm to the presentation of the Offertory gifts. We are so grateful to all the Year 3 Navy and Gold parents and family members who joined us for this special celebration. 🙏💙💛 #FamilyMass #Year3 #SchoolofCuriosity

The chamber orchestra consists of our more experienced members of the string orchestra. They have been working on this piece by a contemporary English composer; Max Richter. This is a style of composition known as Minimalism which our senior music students have been studying in class. It seems simple in structure but actually has a complex underlying melodic structure - whilst repetitive, please listen closely to the harmonic tension and resolution and imagine the sun rising over the ocean.
