Supporting Red November for suffering Christians around the world

07 Dec 2020

On Friday 4 December, the College held a day of support for 'Red November' initiative for the Catholic organisation ACN - Aid to the Church in Need to increase awareness of and support for suffering and persecuted Christians.

What many do not know is that the Church often requires urgent help in countries affected by displacement or catastrophe. In addition, more than 200 million Christians cannot freely exercise their faith, they suffer persecution and oppression or their love of Christ.

The community at Santa Sophia Catholic College has stood up in solidarity for faith and freedom; to gather and pray for those who suffer and are persecuted for their faith.

Together we were able to raise $400!

🎄❤️ Spreading Christmas Cheer at Blacktown Hospital! Recently, our Year 12 Social Justice students from Santa Sophia visited the Pediatric Ward at Blacktown Hospital, bringing smiles and joy with cuddly toys and essential baby goods generously donated during this year’s Christmas Appeal. These gifts will make a big difference for young patients spending Christmas in hospital and new parents caring for their little ones. A heartfelt thank you to our Santa Sophia community for your incredible generosity and support. Through your acts of charity and love, you’ve helped bring comfort, warmth, and festive spirit to those who need it most this Christmas Season. 🌟🎁 #SantaSophiaCares #ChristmasAppeal #CommunityKindness #SpreadingJoy Catholic Schools Parramatta Diocese

Meanwhile in the staffroom… 💛🎄Our Instructional Coach of RE, Mrs Carmen Rojo, led a beautiful Christmas initiative for teachers and staff to organise gifts for Indigenous children supported by the Baabayn Society. Thanks to the incredible generosity of our Santa Sophia staff, 76 gifts were donated — bringing huge smiles to Naomi and her team at Baabayn, who were truly overwhelmed by the kindness shown. These gifts will reach children who may not otherwise receive a present this Christmas, and it’s moving to know that each one will help create a smile on Christmas morning. 🎁✨ Thank you to our amazing staff for sharing the spirit of generosity and community — you’ve helped make Christmas a little brighter for so many families. 💛 Catholic Schools Parramatta Diocese #aboriginalcommunity #indigenouscommunities

🎬✨ What a night to remember at the School of Connect! Our Years 5–8 students came together for a festive evening filled with laughter, snacks, and the joy of the holiday season. Dressed in their Christmas best, they watched the beloved classic Home Alone with their friends, sharing smiles, stories, and plenty of festive cheer. 🍿🎄 A massive shoutout to our Year 9 Social Justice students, who organised this wonderful event from start to finish! Their dedication, creativity, and leadership ensured the night was not only fun but also meaningful, as all proceeds went to support the Vinnies Christmas Appeal—bringing hope and happiness to families in need this Christmas. ❤️ We also want to thank the parents for supporting the event, the supervising teachers for their care and guidance, and of course, all the students for bringing such energy and joy to the night. You truly made the School of Connect sparkle with the spirit of giving! 🌟 Together, we celebrated friendship, fun, and the power of community while making a real difference this Christmas. #ConnectCommunity #VinniesChristmasAppeal #HomeAlone #ChristmasSpirit #GivingBack #SocialJustice #StudentLeadership Catholic Schools Parramatta Diocese
